Gold for Beemster 30+ Old at World Cheese Awards
Last weekend the annual pageant of The World Cheese Awards took place in Trondheim, Norway. 4,500 cheeses are sent from 28 countries to be judged by 264 high-level judges. The cheeses are tasted blind per category and judged on aspects such as aroma, texture of the cheese, taste and mouthfeel. The three best cheeses per category are awarded gold, silver or bronze.
Beemster cheese, which is made in the cheese factory of CONO Kaasmakers, won prizes in this famous competition with several of the cheeses in the Beemster assortment. The Beemster Oud 30+, one of the classics in the range won the gold medal.
Cheesemaster Sjoerd Hiemstra commented on the award, "There is a huge range of cheeses at this judging. We are proud that our cheese stands out again. Fair is fair the Beemster 30+ Old, is one of our showpieces, it's so tasty, and so the judges taste that too!"
The World Cheese Awards concluded with a final judging of the 16 Super Gold cheeses. In the end, the victory was for a blue-veined cheese from a small artisan cheese maker from Norway, Gangstad Gårdsysteri.
