Meatballs with Beemster Old from the oven

Main course. 4 persons. Preparation 30 min.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 12 beef meatballs
  • 1 onion
  • 1 clove of garlic
  • 10 g fresh oregano
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 400 g diced tomatoes
  • 80 g Beemster Old, grated

  • round baking dish (Ø 20 cm)

Prepare

  1. Preheat the oven to 180˚C. Heat the oil in a frying pan and brown the beef meatballs in 4 min all around. Place the meatballs in the baking dish.
  2. Meanwhile, chop the onion and finely chop the garlic. Fry the onion and garlic in the remaining cooking fat for 5 min. over low heat. Remove the leaves from the sprigs of oregano. Keep ⅓ of the leaves, chop the rest and fry together with the tomato puree for 2 min. with the onion.
  3. Add the diced tomatoes and bring the sauce to a boil. Season to taste with (freshly ground) pepper and salt. Pour the sauce over the meatballs in the baking dish. Sprinkle with the cheese and place the dish in the center of the oven for 15 min. Remove the meatballs from the oven when the cheese begins to turn golden brown. Sprinkle with the rest of the oregano and serve. Delicious with tagliatelle.
