Beemster Bee Ribbon blooms!

Beemster Bee Ribbon blooms!

In the spring, CONO Kaasmakers, the makers of Beemster cheese, together with our farmers, sowed the Beemster Bee Ribbon. The Beemster Bee Ribbon starts at the cheese factory and continues with flower strips that take you throughout the Beemster. In recent years it has grown to a ribbon of 50,000m2!

Wild bees are indispensable

"Wild bees have been struggling in recent years. Together with our farmers, we want to make a positive contribution to protecting their habitats. In addition to bees, the Beemster Bee Ribbon helps birds, butterflies and other vital insects. The Beemster Bee Ribbon is a pilot that began in 2019. By 2020, together with farmer, neighborhood and citizens, we have made the Bee Ribbon bigger." Ideas abound!" said Grietsje Hoekstra, sustainability manager at CONO Kaasmakers.

Strengthening Biodiversity
Bees, as pollinators, play an important role in terms of food supply, biodiversity, and a healthy environment. Grietsje Hoekstra: "This is important for all of us. Every farmer works with and depends on nature. On and around every farm you will see nature and biodiversity. Moreover, this is stimulated by our cooperative."

In short, right now the Beemster polder is definitely the "place to bee.
