The Beemster Bee Ribbon
As pollinators, bees play an important role in terms of food supply, biodiversity, and a healthy environment. Wild bees need flowers to live. With each flower visit, bees help pollinate allowing the plant or fruit tree to bear fruit.
"Wild bees have been struggling in recent years." said Grietsje Hoekstra sustainability manager CONO Kaasmakers "We want to make a positive contribution with farmers to protect their habitats. The sown flower mixture is specially tailored to the needs of bees."
The Beemster Bee Ribbon starts at the cheese factory where Beemster cheeses are made. Flower strips have also been planted along the meadows of a number of dairy farmers belonging to the Beemster cooperative. As soon as the flowers bloom, a veritable Bee Ribbon will emerge in the Beemster. The Bee Ribbon is expected to be in bloom in August.
